Kingfisher on the board (or should that be Broad?) 6

Finished at last!!!  Took a lot longer than I thought, but overall very pleased with it, and it is now scanned and uploaded to the website in the limited edition prints. I need to catch up with some other admin, and then I think the next picture will be a graphite Greyhound... unless I change my mind of course 8-)

Kingfisher on the board (or should that be Broad?) 5

The Kingfisher is now about half finished.  I am still working in layers and refining as I go.  It is proving to be as time consuming as I thought it would, but I am thoroughly enjoying doing it, amongst my other work. It is really good to get off the Mac and onto the drawing board whenever possible 8-) I am looking forward to scanning it once completed as the colours are much brighter than shown here - overcast day in Norfolk and always like to photograph in daylight!

Kingfisher on the board (or should that be Broad?) 4

As you can see the birdie is taking flight (at last), and really starting to pull together. Although working in layers is very time consuming, it really pays off and gives great defination and depth.  There are still tweaks to be added as I go on, but the head and breast are nearly there... now onto the wings and tail, and making the shadow under the leading edge of the wing more rounded, so it has more connection between the wing and body... onwards and upwards!!!

Kingfisher on the board (or should that be Broad?) 3

Another update on the kingfisher for you - he is being a tricky little devil, but think I am slowly cracking it. First bird I've done in a while so got to get back in the swing of feathers!!!

Kingfisher on the board (or should that be Broad?) 2

Here is the next update, later than I had hoped, as have been working on other projects. As you can see, the beak and front of the face are 90% of the way there... I 'tweak' as I go along. I am now working on the head feathers to get the right tonal values and contours. I was going to put some moss in it's beak, but it just looked wrong, so that was dispatched and over painted.  Pleased with how it is standing out from the dark background... and hope to post the next update faster than the last 8-)

Kingfisher on the board (or should that be Broad?)

Here's the new work in progress for the limited edition section of my site. This is to  be completed in gouache.

First stage is background and blocking in colour areas. Then work on building it up in layers.  Hopefully I can make good progress this week 8-) and will upload progress as I go... watch this space!

Wesite launched...Phew!!!

Finally launched today!!
After all the research, copywriting and adding to the galleries (that was the best bit 8-),  I have opened up to the world - scary or what? And only one day over my deadline! Now need to add more limited edition pictures, and keep everything up to date... fingers crossed.

Come and have a look, and tell me what you think?
